Sand castle on Miami beach
This elaborate sand castle was found in South Beach Miami, in the little park across the Art Deco District. It is a real art piece, complete with a staircase, nice looking turrets, and more than dozens of miniature arches, holding the fragile structure together. It looks solid and majestic, set against the wide sand beach, mangrove bushes and palm trees in the distance.
The list of ingredients for creating a sandcastle is surprisingly short - sand, water and some simple digging and carving tools. The sand is everywhere, but be prepared to haul in a lot of water.
The most essential thing in the creation of any sand structure is wet sand. The water adheres to the individual grains of sand and binds them together. This is the very secret why damp sand sticks together, so you can shape and carve it. Packing down or tamping wet sand absorbs water very quickly, allowing all kinds of carving and shaping.
I got my first Czech-made 35mm Etareta film camera in early 60's from my father (who used it for at least another fifteen years before me) and have been photographing and developing prints ever since. The other passions are travelling and love of nature that go well with photography. Over the last ten years, I published a series of four panorama books covering Toronto and the "near North" region in Ontario, and my prints have been sold by number of local galleries. Many of my images are distributed also by several stock agencies. Thank you for finding this wonderful FAA site and I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I am. Note: If an image has the FAA watermark in the lower right hand corner it will NOT appear on any print you purchase....

Thank you, Donna. Actually, not too many hours spent on this creation. The maker was an experienced master sand castle sculptor.
