Description
Lifeguard Station on Hollywood Beach, Florida
In Florida, all seaside town sport slightly different looking lifeguard stations. Visitors walking down the white sandy beaches can see from a distance nostalgic and colorfully painted lifeguard stations.
On the Atlantic coast, the Atlantic Beach Ocean Rescue organization Atlantic Beach Ocean Rescue organization provides the lifeguards staff and patrol the beach on a daily basis, providing guidance and direction relative to hazardous conditions, marine animals, and first aid. All lifeguards are over the age of 16 and possess strong swimming skills, i.e. they are required to swim 500 meters in less than 10 minutes and complete a 2-mile run in under 20 minutes.
This station was photographed in late January on the Hollywood Beach, just on the other side of the famous Hollywood Beach boardwalk. The lifeguard stations are simple shelters, built on a strong platform, elevated about three feet above the sand. In the season, each lifeguard station has a notice board with daily air and water temperatures and other quickly changing information, plus colorcoded flags indicating various danger conditions.
